“If there’s something strange
In your neighborhood
Who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters!

If there’s something weird
And it don’t look good
Who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters!

If you’re all alone
Pick up the phone
And call
Ghostbusters!”

Soon after the Ghostbusters movie was released in 1984, it became a cultural phenomenon. The film’s effect on popular culture has not wavered over the years and at times, I find the lyrics of its iconic song running through my head.

Part of what fuels the longevity of the song, I believe, is the unspoken desire within many of us to have someone to call – no matter what. Someone to call when there’s something weird or something strange or we’re just all alone.

While we don’t have Ghostbusters at Bethesda-by-the-Sea, we have something even better – Shepherds! Do you know who your Shepherd is? Every household at Bethesda is assigned a Shepherd who emails them monthly, prays for them, and is there for them in times of need and times of joy. Shepherds are committed to support their flock through compassionate prayer, confidentiality, and consistent communication, as needed or desired. In addition, Shepherds are happy to connect you with clergy and staff upon request.

This week, a special Shepherd’s Bulletin Board is being created near the Library with pictures and a listing of which alphabetical names are in each person’s flock. Stop by and take a look. We are one in God’s family at Bethesda, where no one ever walks alone. Look for your Shepherd’s monthly email and let them hear from you! They’re ready.

For more on the Shepherd Ministry or how to contact your Shepherd, email us at shepherds@bbts.org. In the meantime, please bear with me. I can’t help but share my new song lyrics with you.

If you’re feeling confused
And unenthused
Who you gonna call?
Your Shepherd!

If you’re feeling sad
And things seem bad
Who you gonna call?
Your Shepherd!

If you’re all alone
Pick up the phone
And call
Your Shepherd!
