Dear Friends,
There are few things in our deeply divided world that people of all faiths and denominations can agree upon. One of these points of unity, however, is feeding the hungry.
Scripture commends us to be generous in sharing food with the poor. In Matthew 25, Jesus likens giving food to the hungry to serving Christ himself: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.” And in Proverbs we hear, “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.”
So as we prepare to host our 11th annual Empty Bowls event tomorrow in support of the Palm Beach County Food Bank, we are literally acting Biblically. Through our generosity, while enjoying great community fellowship and a delectable variety of superior soups, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of so many.
We will also mark a major milestone as, at some point tomorrow, Bethesda will pass $1 million raised for the food insecure in our community throughout the years of this partnership. That’s a big deal! And we’re proud to keep this going, as the need is greater than ever.
I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow. I’ll personally be slinging soup from noon to 1:00 pm as a “Celebrity Server” (the term is very loosely defined). And if you haven’t yet signed up, or if you’ve never before attended this special event, I encourage you to do so by clicking here.
As the prophet Isaiah reminds us, “if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday.”
Peace,
Tim+
